Authorities arrested six teenagers following a police pursuit that prompted the temporary closure of all lanes on the Monash Freeway in Melbourne. The incident unfolded early Tuesday afternoon, with the arrests occurring near Warrigal Road in Chadstone around midday.
The chase began after police linked the group to an alleged aggravated burglary at a residence on Clonaig Street in Brighton during the early hours of Tuesday. According to law enforcement officials, an occupant of the home was disturbed when the group reportedly stole a Nissan four-wheel drive vehicle.
The stolen Nissan was later seen driving erratically on EastLink and tracked by police as it moved through the eastern and southeastern suburbs of Melbourne. Heavily armed officers intercepted the vehicle on the Monash Freeway just after noon. Despite the high-risk situation, all six teenagers were taken into custody without any reported injuries.
In addition to the Nissan, police recovered a stolen Audi that had been involved in a crash in Endeavour Hills during the pursuit. Following the interception, authorities temporarily closed all outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway, resulting in significant traffic disruptions for several hours.
The freeway lanes reopened shortly before 3 p.m., but motorists experienced extended delays throughout the afternoon due to the earlier blockade. Police investigations related to the burglary and subsequent chase remain ongoing as authorities continue to gather information.
