An Israeli drone strike near the Lebanese town of Hawsh Al-Sayyed Ali in the Hermel district wounded six people, including five Syrian nationals and one Lebanese, Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported. The incident took place close to the Syrian border, in a region that has seen little violence since a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was reached in June.

Lebanon’s National News Agency stated that the attack targeted a vehicle in the area. The Israeli military confirmed responsibility for the strike, identifying the target as Yusuf Ali Al-Hassoun, whom it described as a “terrorist” operating under Iranian direction. According to Israel, Al-Hassoun was involved in planning attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers, including foiled attempts involving explosive drones and rockets aimed at Israeli forces in southern Syria.

Israel’s military emphasized its commitment to countering what it called immediate threats on all fronts. In recent years, Israel has intensified its operations in Syria, including hundreds of airstrikes following the removal of Syrian President Bashar Assad in December 2024. The Israeli military has also deployed troops in a United Nations-patrolled buffer zone in the Golan Heights, a region separating Israeli and Syrian forces since 1974. Additionally, Israel has conducted incursions deeper into Syrian territory and expressed intentions to maintain a “security zone” in southern Syria to establish a broader demilitarized area.

On the same day as the drone strike in Lebanon, Israel reported the killing of an assailant at an army outpost in the area it occupies in southern Syria. The ongoing tensions underscore the fragile security situation along the Lebanon-Syria-Israel border region, despite ceasefire agreements involving Hezbollah and other parties.
