Management and Science University (MSU) and the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Corporation (Perhebat) have formalised a cooperation agreement to enhance skills development and employment prospects for Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel and veterans transitioning to civilian careers. The signing of the Note of Understanding (NoU) took place at MSU’s main campus in Shah Alam, witnessed by Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari.

The ceremony was attended by key figures including MSU president and founder Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, Perhebat director-general Datuk Amir Md Noor, MSU vice-chancellor Prof Puan Sri Dr Junainah Abd Hamid, and Perhebat chairman Prof Emerita Datuk Dr Roziah Omar, alongside senior officials from both organisations.

Under the Kerjaya Kedua Perwira initiative, the partnership aims to develop professional training and certification programmes tailored to leverage the expertise and experience of retiring and retired ATM personnel. It also intends to facilitate employment opportunities through MSU’s subsidiaries, which operate in sectors aligned with the skills of veterans.

Beyond providing training and job placement, MSU and Perhebat will jointly track the progress and welfare of participants, seeking continuous improvements to enhance programme effectiveness. Promotional activities will also be undertaken to raise awareness of this national initiative, highlighting the value of veterans’ contributions to the workforce.

Aligned with Malaysia’s national skills development agenda under the National TVET Council (MTVET), MSU is implementing the TVETPreneur apprenticeship programme as a key component of this collaboration. The first phase involves 30 Perhebat trainees and ATM veterans undergoing a three-month training course at MSU. This programme is managed by the MSU Academy and the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP).

The TVETPreneur curriculum includes entrepreneurship, business incubator development and management, mentoring by industry experts, and practical training in business management. Fully funded by MTVET, the programme focuses on building competency, fostering entrepreneurial skills, and preparing participants for career readiness, helping them create sustainable economic opportunities after completing military service.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of both MSU and Perhebat to support veterans in their career transitions and acknowledge the significant expertise they bring to new professional fields. Through skills development, career guidance, and employment facilitation, the partnership aims to empower veterans and enable their continued contribution to Malaysia’s socioeconomic development.
