The Sri Lanka High Commission in South Africa hosted a tourism promotion event on Sunday, August 30, at the Rosebank Sunday Market in Johannesburg. The event aimed to highlight the broad range of tourist attractions and experiences available in Sri Lanka, while distributing informational materials to visitors.
Attended by members of the diplomatic and South African business communities, as well as the local Sri Lankan diaspora, the event sought to raise awareness of Sri Lanka as an appealing travel destination and to foster stronger interpersonal connections between communities. High Commissioner Air Chief Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa (Retd) was present for the occasion.
Organizers reported substantial interest from attendees, many of whom expressed intentions to visit Sri Lanka and explore its cultural, natural, and culinary offerings. The High Commission described the positive visitor engagement as a key factor contributing to the event’s success.
Held in Rosebank, one of Johannesburg’s vibrant and diverse neighborhoods, the event provided an opportunity to introduce Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, wildlife, and varied travel experiences to a broad, multicultural audience.
