Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. local time on Saturday across Slovakia to conduct local and regional elections, with voting scheduled to continue until 8 p.m. These elections will determine representatives for municipal and regional councils, including mayors and governors, who will serve four-year terms.
A total of 6,029 polling stations have been set up across 2,926 municipalities, towns, cities, and city districts nationwide. Nearly 4.41 million eligible voters are participating in the electoral process. In addition to municipal-level offices, voters in the capital city Bratislava and the eastern city of Kosice are also casting ballots for district mayors and members of district councils.
Eligible voters include Slovak citizens aged 18 and over, as well as qualified foreign nationals residing in the country. Voting is permitted only at polling stations corresponding to voters’ permanent residences. Slovak voters are required to present a valid identity card, while foreign nationals must provide an identity card confirming their long-term residence permit in Slovakia.
The elections are expected to shape local governance and regional administration, influencing policies and management at multiple levels of government for the next four years.
