The Smithsonian Institution is hosting a Family Day event offering a variety of educational and interactive activities for visitors of all ages. Scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event will take place at the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building, located at 900 Jefferson Drive SW in Washington, D.C.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiences presented by several of the Smithsonian’s museums. Activities include creating prints using specimens from the National Museum of Natural History, such as a T. rex tooth, designing custom postage stamps with the National Postal Museum, and constructing sculptures with guidance from the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Additionally, the Smithsonian Science Education Center will offer interactive science experiments aimed at encouraging exploration and discovery.
The program also features live entertainment to complement the educational offerings. Attendees can enjoy performances by a jazz ensemble and a barbershop quartet, as well as a movement class hosted by the Washington Ballet. The Smithsonian Associates’ Discovery Theater will present a play designed for children. In addition, actors in period costumes will make appearances portraying historical figures including George Washington and Amelia Earhart.
Admission to the Family Day event is free, and no tickets are required for entry. The Smithsonian encourages families and visitors of all ages to attend for a day of learning and entertainment along the National Mall. Additional information is available on the Smithsonian’s official website.
