A photograph capturing a whale shark surrounded by nearly 50 divers and snorkelers in the Raa Atoll, Maldives, has won a prominent award at the Ocean Photographer of the Year 2026 competition. In addition to this photo, French photographer Julien Anton was named overall winner of the competition. Anton’s top prize-winning image features a portrait of a male seahorse alongside two juvenile seahorses, earning him distinction in the Wildlife category.
