A recent survey conducted by the Oman National Center for Statistics and Information in October 2026 highlights the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the daily lives of Omanis, while also shedding light on the public’s mixed perceptions regarding its benefits and risks. The study, which involved 1,793 respondents from various governorates, assessed the population’s familiarity with AI, usage patterns, motivations, and concerns.
According to the survey, 43 percent of participants reported having used AI applications, with a significant majority—95 percent—viewing these technologies as effective in completing everyday tasks. Frequent interaction with AI-powered tools was noted, particularly through chatbots and smartphone features. Respondents cited key reasons for their engagement with AI, including saving time, enhancing learning, improving the quality of outcomes, and supporting decision-making processes.
Despite the acknowledged advantages, the study also revealed notable apprehensions among users. Approximately 46 percent expressed fears related to data breaches and the security of their personal information when using AI services. Paradoxically, 36 percent admitted to sharing personal data even amid these concerns, underscoring a tension between convenience and privacy. Other worries included the spread of misinformation and the potential behavioral impacts stemming from AI technology.
In response to these findings, participants emphasized the need for comprehensive regulatory measures to guide AI adoption in Oman. Recommendations focused on increasing community awareness, implementing secure usage policies, and establishing official guidelines to govern AI applications. The survey underscores the importance of balancing the opportunities presented by AI with robust data protection strategies as Oman continues its digital transformation.
The report signals a critical juncture for policymakers and stakeholders seeking to foster responsible AI integration that aligns with public trust and security imperatives.
