In London, about 91% of the Sun will be obscured, but buildings could impede sightlines due to the Sun’s low position. Suitable viewing locations in the capital include hilltops and open spaces such as Blackheath, Hampton Court Palace, Primrose Hill, Gotford’s Hill, and Blythe Hill. Viewing from bridges over the Thames or rooftop venues is also viable. Local astronomy groups will hold viewing events with equipment and guidance, including the SW London Astronomers in Tooting Common and the Loughton Astronomical Society near Chingford.
Safety remains paramount when observing a solar eclipse. Experts caution against looking directly at the Sun without proper protective eyewear, as this can cause permanent eye damage. Normal sunglasses do not provide adequate protection. Eclipse glasses meeting the international ISO 12312-2 safety standard are recommended and should be purchased from trusted suppliers. Organizations such as the Royal Observatory and optics retailers offer certified glasses, and indirect observation methods, such as pinhole cameras, are also advised.

Its path of totality will cross parts of Egypt, Algeria, Gibraltar, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia. Near Luxor, Egypt, the eclipse will last up to six minutes and 23 seconds. Travel companies are already offering guided tours for this event, including expert-led excursions in remote locations such as Morocco’s Rif Mountains.
