Solihull Moors concluded their pre-season preparations with a 4-2 defeat against League Two opponents Northampton Town at Damson Park on Saturday.

The hosts took an early lead after just four minutes when Cameron Green scored with a long-range strike that deflected past Northampton goalkeeper Zach Jeacock. Tyler French came close to extending the advantage with a header that narrowly cleared the crossbar. Northampton responded through new signing Matty Warhurst, who came on from Manchester City during the summer transfer window. Warhurst missed an initial free-kick opportunity but then equalised in the 32nd minute by converting a cross from Kamarai Swyer.

The visitors took the lead four minutes later when Connor Evans finished off another Swyer delivery. In the second half, Elliott List entered the match and extended Northampton’s lead to 3-1 in the 51st minute, scoring from the penalty spot after being fouled. Substitute Sam Hoskins further increased the advantage with a goal following another strong attempt from Swyer, whose initial shot struck the woodwork.

Solihull Moors responded midway through the half with striker Jake Wakeling reducing the deficit with a well-taken finish. Despite a late effort from Northampton, featuring good build-up play by James Maxwell, the Moors could not find an equaliser.

The result marked a challenging conclusion to Solihull Moors’ pre-season campaign as they prepare to launch their National League season later this month. Northampton Town, meanwhile, demonstrated promising attacking cohesion ahead of their League Two opener.
