Somerset secured a commanding 306-run victory over Nottinghamshire on the final day of their County Championship match at Trent Bridge, moving to 21 points in the standings while Nottinghamshire remained on 3.

Batting first, Somerset posted a total of 310 runs in their opening innings, highlighted by a century from J G Hermann, who scored 106, and significant contributions from T H S Rew (68) and A M Vaughan, who remained unbeaten on 66. Nottinghamshire's F P O’Neill was the standout bowler with figures of 6 for 72.

In response, Nottinghamshire struggled to build partnerships and were dismissed for 193, with J A Haynes top-scoring with 57. Somerset's L Gregory led the bowling attack, taking 4 wickets for 51 runs.

Somerset then declared their second innings at 355 for 7, with T H S Rew remaining unbeaten on 127 and his teammate J E K Rew adding 50 runs.

Chasing a substantial target, Nottinghamshire resumed at 47 for 3 but were unable to mount a recovery. Key wickets fell regularly, including Hussain Hameed who scored 25 before being caught by Rew off Overton, and captain J A Haynes who made 24. Despite a resilient 54 not out from F P O’Neill, the team was bowled out for 166 in 63.5 overs. Overton’s bowling was instrumental, claiming six wickets for 29 runs. Additional wickets came from Pretorius and Leach, while Ball also contributed.

Somerset’s comprehensive victory was built on strong batting performances in both innings and a disciplined bowling display, particularly by Overton and Gregory. The result further solidifies Somerset’s position in the Championship, while Nottinghamshire faces continued challenges at the lower end of the table.
