Sonia Gandhi, chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party in India, has shared intimate details about her initial meeting and early relationship with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. In a video posted on social media, she reflected on how their love story began in 1965 at a small Greek restaurant in Cambridge, England.

The post, which also marked Sonia Gandhi’s debut on the social media platform X, provided a glimpse into her personal life ahead of the upcoming release of her memoir, *Belonging: A Journey of Love*, scheduled for November 10.

Recalling the time she spent in England, Sonia described the challenge of finding suitable food options during an era when restaurants were limited. She eventually found a Greek restaurant popular among Indian and Italian students, which became a familiar gathering place. It was at this location that she was introduced to Rajiv Gandhi, who was studying in Cambridge at the time. Their acquaintance grew through mutual friends, parties, and shared social occasions.

Sonia Gandhi stated that she felt an immediate connection upon first meeting Rajiv. She described him as a gentle and good-looking person, qualities that left a lasting impression. “He was a very gentle-looking person... that gentleness came through. That was something that really touched me and struck me,” she said.

The Congress leader characterized their story as one encompassing love, duty, loss, and the search for belonging. She expressed anticipation for sharing more of their journey through her forthcoming memoir.
