Sony has re-entered the bridge-camera market with the launch of the RX10 V, marking the first new model in this lineup since the RX10 IV debuted nine years ago. The RX10 V targets photographers seeking extensive zoom capability and advanced controls without the need to carry multiple interchangeable lenses.
At the heart of the camera is a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens offering a 24-600mm equivalent focal length, providing a 25x optical zoom range. The lens features a variable aperture of f/2.4 to f/4, designed to accommodate a variety of shooting scenarios from wide landscapes and family portraits to fast-moving sports and distant wildlife. Additionally, the lens supports close focusing distances as near as 3 centimeters at the wide end, facilitating detailed close-up photography.
The RX10 V incorporates a 20.1-megapixel 1-inch Exmor RS sensor combined with Sony’s Bionz XR image processor and an integrated AI module. This combination enables an advanced autofocus system capable of recognizing a range of subjects, including people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and aircraft. The camera supports continuous shooting at up to 30 frames per second with autofocus and auto exposure tracking, catering to high-speed photography needs. Video capabilities have been enhanced, with 4K recording now available at up to 120 frames per second for slow-motion capture.
Additional updates include a larger electronic viewfinder, refined physical controls for improved handling, a USB-C port for connectivity and charging, and a higher-capacity battery to support extended use. The RX10 V also features weather-resistant construction, enhancing its suitability for varied shooting environments.
Positioned in the premium segment, the RX10 V offers a comprehensive all-in-one solution for photographers who prefer a versatile, robust camera without the inconvenience of multiple lenses. Sony has opened pre-orders for the RX10 V on its UK website, with shipments scheduled to begin next month. The camera is priced at £2,199.
