Australia captain Sophie Molineux emerged as the highest-priced player at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, securing a contract worth $164,000 with the UP Warriorz team. The left-handed bowling all-rounder, who captained Australia to victory in the T20 World Cup earlier this year, attracted interest from Royal Challengers Bengaluru but ultimately went to UP Warriorz for more than double her base price of $74,500. The auction took place in Kochi as part of the team-building process for the fifth edition of the WPL.

UP Warriorz, captained by fellow Australian Meg Lanning, entered the mini auction with the largest available budget among the five franchises finalizing their squads ahead of the tournament. In addition to Molineux, the Warriorz also secured the services of Australian all-rounder Grace Harris, signing her for $45,000.

The upcoming WPL season is scheduled to commence on January 14, 2027, with the final match slated for February 7. The league continues to grow in prominence, showcasing top female cricketing talent from Australia and around the world.
