Soraya Khashoggi, widow of Saudi billionaire Adnan Khashoggi, has revealed the deep personal anguish she faces due to her estrangement from her daughter Nabila and the resulting loss of contact with her grandson. The strained family ties have left Soraya separated from her grandson, Layth, for nearly a decade.
Soraya, who was raised in humble circumstances in Leicester by a single mother, is the mother of nine children, including Nabila, her only daughter with Adnan Khashoggi. The billionaire’s vast wealth once afforded the family a luxurious lifestyle, including multiple jets, yachts, and fourteen homes. Despite this prominence, Soraya says she has endured one of her most profound personal hardships through the breakdown of her relationship with Nabila.
“I haven’t seen my grandson for nine years,” Soraya said, noting that Nabila has cut off all contact and told one of her brothers to inform Soraya that she is “dead” to her. Soraya referred to Layth by name—Nabila’s only child with her second husband, American billionaire Jim Cox Chambers—and expressed concern that the boy, now around 17, may be unaware he has a living grandmother.
Nabila Khashoggi, 64, was educated at Millfield School in Somerset following her parents’ flight from Lebanon during the country’s civil war. She initially married Danny Daggenhurst, with whom she had a son named Spartan, before pursuing a career in film and later marrying Jim Cox Chambers in 2004. Layth is their only child together.
While Nabila declined to comment on the family dispute, Soraya suggested that her daughter’s affiliation with the Church of Scientology may be a factor in their estrangement. Reports from decades ago indicated Nabila’s association with the church after she moved to Los Angeles. Soraya claims that Nabila and her husband are among the church’s most significant donors, second only to actor Tom Cruise.
The Khashoggi family saga remains private, with few details publicly confirmed beyond Soraya’s account of the emotional toll caused by their fractured relationships.
