Former Liverpool and Scotland footballer Graeme Souness, 73, is set to undertake a demanding challenge to raise funds for individuals affected by epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare and painful genetic skin condition. Joined by fellow ex-Scotland player Scott Brown and Harry Clark, known for winning the television series Traitors, the group will attempt to climb the United Kingdom’s three highest peaks over three days starting Tuesday.

The team plans to summit Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales, and Scafell Pike in England between Tuesday and Thursday. Alongside the mountain ascents, the challenge will include three high-altitude swims, adding to the physical intensity of the endeavor.

Souness, who experienced a heart attack in 2015, acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge, describing it as “brutal,” though he emphasized that it pales in comparison to the daily suffering endured by people living with EB. The group aims to raise £500,000 to support those affected by the condition, often referred to as “butterfly skin” due to the fragility of the skin in patients.

The fundraising effort highlights both the physical demands of the challenge and the urgency of supporting medical research and care for those with EB, a condition characterized by extreme sensitivity and blistering of the skin from minor friction or trauma.
