Colchester’s Cowley praised his team’s effort and belief, noting that his side created the best chances in the first half against a strong Championship opponent. Reflecting on Akachukwu’s decisive goal, Cowley acknowledged its quality but noted his changing sentiments toward the former Colchester player.
This match attracted considerable attention due to Southampton’s involvement in a previous EFL “Spygate” scandal. The club admitted to breaching EFL rules by illicitly monitoring opponents during last season’s campaign, resulting in their disqualification from the play-off final and a four-point deduction to start the upcoming Championship season.
