Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) continued their dominant start to the Super League season with a 3-0 victory over Terengganu at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak on Tuesday. The win marked JDT’s sixth match unbeaten, maintaining a clean sheet for the sixth consecutive game and extending their goal tally to 28 without conceding.
Striker Bergson Da Silva opened the scoring in the 25th minute, followed by a second goal from Oscar Arribas just before halftime in the 42nd minute. Iranian forward Shahab Zahedi secured the win in the 88th minute, finishing off a cross from winger Arif Aiman Hanapi. The result keeps JDT at the top of the league standings with 18 points from six games.
JDT head coach Xisco Munoz emphasized the importance of squad depth in sustaining success. “We don’t just need 11 players; we need 20 players at the same level,” Munoz said. “The substitutes who come on need to give even more than those who played before. That is what our club stands for because these are demanding expectations.” Munoz also highlighted the team’s resilience in maintaining momentum against a typically challenging Terengganu side.
Terengganu, sitting ninth with five points from five matches, struggled to find rhythm early in the game. Coach Nafuzi Zain described his team’s approach as overly cautious in the first half, which contributed to conceding two “easy” goals. He also pointed to a pivotal moment in the 64th minute when Terengganu’s Matheus de Jesus missed a penalty.
“I asked Gervane Kastaneer first, but he said Matheus was ready to take it. Unfortunately, it didn’t go in, and that disappointment changed the momentum of the game,” Nafuzi explained. Reflecting on the team’s standing, he acknowledged that five points from five games fell short of their expectations.
Terengganu now turn their attention to an upcoming match against Sabah scheduled for October 31. Meanwhile, JDT will look to maintain their unbeaten run as the season progresses.
