Axel Rudakubana, convicted of the 2024 Southport killings, has been charged with multiple assaults on staff at Belmarsh prison. The 19-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murders of three children—Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine—and the attempted murder of ten others during a dance class attack in July 2024.
According to police, Rudakubana faces charges related to three incidents involving prison personnel. These include assaulting an emergency worker on May 6, 2025, and another assault against an emergency worker on October 28, 2025. Additionally, he has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm on May 8, 2025, and possession of an offensive weapon on June 26, 2025.
Last week, authorities confirmed Rudakubana’s transfer from Belmarsh prison to Broadmoor psychiatric hospital, a high-security psychiatric facility. He is scheduled to appear via videolink at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 11 to respond to the new charges.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of Rudakubana’s original offenses and ongoing concerns regarding his behavior while incarcerated. Prison officials have yet to comment on the recent allegations. The upcoming court proceedings will determine how the new charges will be addressed alongside his existing life sentence.
