Raul Fernandez secured his first career MotoGP pole position on Saturday at the Indonesian Grand Prix, delivering a standout performance that momentarily shifted focus from the championship frontrunners. The 25-year-old Spaniard, riding an Aprilia, recorded a leading lap time of 1 minute 28.852 seconds under dry and sunny conditions at Mandalika International Circuit.

Fernandez, who races for the SuperFile-Trackhouse team, had already demonstrated strong pace by setting the fastest time and a lap record during Friday’s practice sessions. His qualifying result places him on the front row alongside Italian riders Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio, who secured the second and third positions respectively.

Championship contenders Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin will start from the second row. Marquez, a seven-time world champion aboard a Ducati, qualified fourth, clocking a time 0.266 seconds slower than Fernandez. Martin, also from Spain and riding an Aprilia, qualified fifth and holds a narrow two-point lead over Marquez in the championship standings.

The arrangement sets up a competitive sprint race on Sunday, followed by the main event on Monday, with Fernández looking to capitalize on his pole position as the season intensifies.
