Spanish authorities detained 128 individuals overnight in Barcelona amid a series of incidents involving vandalism, damage to public property, and looting, according to the Catalan regional police. Among those arrested, 73 were minors, who are expected to be referred to the juvenile prosecutor’s office for further legal proceedings, Catalan police chief Silvia Cata told local media.

The disturbances occurred after large groups, predominantly young people dressed in black, gathered in the city centre. Social media footage captured these groups targeting various businesses across Barcelona, engaging in destructive behavior. The police response aimed to curb the unrest and restore order in the affected areas.

Authorities have not yet provided details on the motive behind the episodes of violence and looting or whether specific groups were involved. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage and to identify any underlying causes for the spike in unrest.
