Ranked 14th in the world, Malaysia secured consecutive 7-0 victories, defeating Uzbekistan and Oman at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium.

Captain Marhan Jalil emphasized the importance of maintaining focus despite the team's strong offensive display. “I’m happy with the three points we got against Oman, but I feel that we need to be improving on our basic skills,” Marhan said. He highlighted the need for continued improvement ahead of tougher matches against higher-ranked opponents Pakistan (12th) and China (19th).

One area Malaysian players are looking to refine is their penalty corner conversions, having scored only once from seven attempts so far. Veteran forward Faizal Saari has been a key contributor, scoring two goals against Oman after a hat-trick in the previous match versus Uzbekistan. Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal also contributed twice against Oman, while Nik Aiman Nik Rozemi added a goal from a penalty corner. Additional goals came from Shello Silverius and Akhimullah Anuar Esook.

Head coach Brendon Carolan cautioned against underestimating the upcoming opponent Thailand, ranked 51st globally. “They are quick and have players with good individual skills,” he said. Carolan noted that Thailand’s ability to launch counterattacks could pose a threat, stressing the importance of a strong tactical approach.

Malaysia’s group stage schedule continues with the match against Thailand, set for tomorrow, followed by encounters with Pakistan on Saturday and China on Monday. Despite their early successes, the team remains focused on sustaining their performance and addressing areas for improvement before the knockout stages.
