A 24-year-old muay thai fighter was pronounced dead following injuries sustained during a bout at the AMC 13 = Fight for Hope tournament held at Singapore’s National Stadium on September 12, police confirmed on September 28. The man, who was taken to hospital unconscious after the fight, passed away at an unspecified date, according to the police statement.

Authorities received a report of the incident on the morning of September 13. Preliminary investigations indicate that no foul play was involved, and inquiries remain ongoing. The fighter, who trained at Fitness Asia, had been reported to be in critical condition with a head injury and was admitted to the intensive care unit.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force reported receiving an emergency call at approximately 7:05 p.m. on September 12 at 1 Stadium Drive. Paramedics transported one person from the scene to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for further treatment.

Mike Tang, president of the Singapore Muaythai Association (SMA), clarified that the bout had been stopped by the referee during the third round out of concern for the fighter’s safety. Contrary to some reports, Tang stated there was no knockout, and both athletes were able to leave the ring unassisted after the match results were announced. Medical assistance was promptly provided at the venue, and the injured athlete was subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance.

The SMA has initiated a formal review into the incident and is collaborating with relevant parties to determine the specific circumstances surrounding the fighter’s injury. The AMC 13 = Fight for Hope is an annual muay thai festival organised by the SMA to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation Singapore.
