Melanie Chisholm, known as Sporty Spice of the Spice Girls, is supporting a clothing donation initiative in partnership with Uber and the Red Cross. The campaign encourages people in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch to donate quality pre-loved clothing to Red Cross Shops, with Uber providing free courier pickup services on October 17, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Chisholm, reflecting on the enduring influence of the Spice Girls, highlighted the lasting appeal of the band’s music and the multigenerational fan base that continues to follow their work. She noted that despite the group’s breakup decades ago, interest remains strong, partly fueled by ongoing talks about a potential reunion. Although she remains optimistic about a future tour featuring all the original members, Chisholm said no definitive plans are yet in place. She emphasized the band’s desire to ensure any reunion project respects their legacy and receives the full commitment of all five members.

In support of the donation drive, Chisholm has contributed some of her iconic stage and personal wardrobe pieces. Items set to be donated include a custom black-and-white tracksuit and matching bra worn during the 2023 Kendal Calling festival, as well as a black crystal-embellished dress she sported while DJing at Bang & Olufsen’s 100th anniversary event. These items will be available at Red Cross stores throughout New Zealand and Australia, rather than being auctioned, offering the public a chance to purchase them directly.

Chisholm expressed enthusiasm for sustainable fashion and the role of pre-loved clothing, noting that she has enjoyed finding unique pieces over the years. She praised New Zealand’s embrace of sustainability and hopes her participation in the initiative will encourage others to follow suit.

To participate, residents in the designated cities can use the Uber app to arrange free clothing pickups for donation on October 17, facilitating convenient contributions to support communities in need through the Red Cross network.
