Spotify has expanded its managed account feature to include users under 13 on its free, ad-supported tier, providing a more tailored listening experience for children while offering parents greater oversight. The update allows young listeners to access age-appropriate songs and playlists, alongside receiving their own annual Wrapped summary, which highlights their listening habits over the year in a shareable format.
Managed accounts come with a suite of parental controls designed to enhance safety. Guardians can filter out explicit content, control playback for specific artists, and customize other settings to suit their preferences. Notably, the feature also restricts access to Spotify’s messaging function, aiming to create a safer environment for younger users by limiting direct interactions within the app.
The new option is immediately available for free Spotify users. To set up a managed account, parents and guardians can navigate to Settings & Privacy, proceed to Parental Controls, and select Create a Managed Account, where step-by-step instructions guide them through the process.
This move reflects Spotify’s ongoing efforts to cater to younger audiences while addressing parental concerns about content and safety on its platform.
