The fifth annual Bridges of Hope event was held in Doha this October, aiming to raise breast cancer awareness while emphasizing emotional support and community solidarity for patients, survivors, and their families. Organized in partnership with the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) as part of Pink October activities, the event took place under the patronage of Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Jaber al-Thani, chairman of the QCS Board of Directors.

Themed “A Window of Hope,” the event sought to extend awareness efforts beyond early detection by addressing psychological and social challenges associated with breast cancer. Tamani al-Yafai, CEO of the Hour and Hour programme, highlighted the importance of dispelling misconceptions about the disease and fostering a culture of hope through collective community engagement.

The programme integrated health education with cultural and artistic elements to engage a broad audience. Specialists conducted awareness sessions, while a series of heritage and musical performances celebrated Qatari and Japanese cultures. Numerous schools also participated, with student performances aimed at encouraging creativity, communication, tolerance, and intergenerational exchange.

A featured Qatari-Japanese cultural exhibition showcased visual arts, Arabic and Japanese calligraphy, traditional clothing, handicrafts, and interactive workshops, further underscoring the event’s focus on cultural connection alongside public health education.

The multifaceted approach facilitated dialogue across different generations and communities, reflecting on how breast cancer affects individuals not only medically but also emotionally and socially. Al-Yafai emphasized that the involvement of government entities and private-sector organizations reflected a coordinated effort spanning health, education, culture, and wider society to promote awareness and sustainable impact.

The event was hosted by the Rixos Hotel and brought together numerous partners and supporters. Al-Yafai expressed gratitude to Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Jaber al-Thani for his patronage and to the Qatar Cancer Society for its collaboration.

Summarizing the event’s vision, al-Yafai described the “Window of Hope” as a symbolic meeting point where cultures intersect and generations unite, sending a message of hope that transcends borders.
