Springfield College, Kandy, delivered strong performances at the recent All-Island ‘A’ Division Inter-School Table Tennis Team Championships held at the Bandaragama Indoor Stadium, securing runner-up positions in both the Under-12 and Under-18 categories.

The Under-12 team, composed of Yoonus Zaman, Hassan Zaman, Hussein Zaman, and Mohammad Usman, advanced through the group stage with wins against Royal College and Dharmaraja College. They continued their momentum by defeating Hindu College, Colombo in the quarter-finals and P. de S. Kularatne College, Ambalangoda in the semi-finals. However, they fell short in the final, losing to the defending champions Dharmashoka College, Ambalangoda.

In the Under-18 ‘E’ Division, Springfield’s squad consisted of Shannon Kennedy, Nathesha Wijesinghe, Bilal Zaman, and Ayesh Ellepola. After topping their group following victories against Poramadulla Central College and Galahitiyawa Central College, the team went on to defeat Anuradhapura Central College in the quarter-finals and Ananda College, Matugama in the semi-finals. Springfield ultimately finished as runners-up after falling to Carey College in the final match.

Both teams were led by coaches Kanchana Wedagedara and Rajesh Kumar, whose training efforts were credited with contributing significantly to the teams’ success. Springfield College’s performances this year reaffirm the school’s emerging prominence in Sri Lanka’s inter-school table tennis scene, building on their recent Under-10 ‘A’ Division title won last month.
