Tottenham Hotspur have secured the transfer of Dutch centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion for a reported £52 million. The 26-year-old defender has signed a long-term contract with Spurs, marking a significant investment in the club’s defensive options.
Van Hecke had been identified as a key target by Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, who worked with the player during two seasons at Brighton’s Amex Stadium. Despite two earlier bids being rejected, Tottenham’s latest offer was accepted, allowing the club to finalize the deal this month.
Upon joining Spurs, Van Hecke expressed his enthusiasm, describing the move as a “huge honour” and a dream come true to play for a club of Tottenham’s stature.
This signing follows the acquisitions of defenders Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, both of whom arrived at Tottenham on free transfers earlier in the summer. The club appears focused on bolstering its back line ahead of the upcoming season.
