The Council of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) convened its fourth meeting of the 2025/2026 academic year on Wednesday in Muscat, with Dr. Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibani, Minister of Education and Chairperson of the University Council, presiding. The session focused on reviewing progress across various university projects and assessing the implementation status of previous council decisions and recommendations.
A key outcome of the meeting was the approval of a draft update to the university’s academic regulations governing undergraduate studies. This revision aligns with SQU’s ongoing commitment to modernize its academic framework and incorporate contemporary best practices prevalent in global higher education institutions.
Additionally, the Council endorsed the introduction of new provisions aimed at addressing tie-breaker scenarios within the admission criteria for bachelor’s programmes at the College of Education. This measure seeks to enhance transparency and ensure fairness in the selection of applicants when competition for limited places results in equal qualifications.
The meeting reflected the university’s continued efforts to refine its academic policies and maintain a high standard of educational governance.
