Three students from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) have been recognized with an international award for their innovative use of artificial intelligence in education. The team, comprised of Noof al Shamli, Bara’ah al Aufi, and Maysoon Ambusaidi from the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistics at SQU’s College of Science, received the Innovative Problem Discovery Award at the Second International AI in Education Competition 2026 (AIREA) held recently in Hong Kong.

Under the guidance of Dr. Iman al Hassani, the group developed a project called Ilmify, an AI-driven platform designed to tailor learning experiences to individual students. The platform offers adaptive learning tools, generates smart summaries of academic material, and provides features intended to help students optimize their academic performance.

The award distinguishes the team’s contribution to addressing key challenges in education through the application of artificial intelligence. Ilmify’s capabilities aim to personalize education and improve learning efficiency, reflecting a growing emphasis on integrating AI into academic environments.

This accomplishment underscores the collaborative efforts between students from different scientific disciplines at SQU and highlights the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and research in emerging technologies. The recognition at an international competition serves as an affirmation of the institution’s active role in advancing AI applications within education on a global scale.
