A Special Response Battalion (SRB) officer was killed early Sunday when a truck struck a temporary checkpoint on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Feni Sadar upazila. The incident occurred near the Fatehpur Star Line Filling Station on the Chattogram-bound lane around 1 a.m.

The deceased, Mohammad Alamgir, 46, served as a Warrant Officer in the Bangladesh Army and was assigned to the SRB-7 Feni Camp on deputation. He was a resident of the Shantibag area in Kendua upazila, Netrokona district.

According to police and other officials, the SRB team had set up the checkpoint following a tip-off. When they signaled a covered van to stop, its driver complied. However, a truck traveling behind the van did not heed the signal and collided with the rear of the covered van. The truck then attempted to evade the checkpoint by moving to the left side of the highway, where it struck Officer Alamgir, who was on duty.

The collision critically injured Alamgir and caused the truck to veer off the road into a roadside ditch. The truck’s driver, Md Sojib, also sustained critical injuries. Sojib is from the Shaympur area under Bakerganj upazila in Barishal district.

Fellow SRB personnel immediately rescued both Alamgir and Sojib and transported them to Feni Sadar Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Alamgir was pronounced dead upon arrival. Sojib remains under treatment at the hospital.

Authorities from the Mohipal Highway Police Station responded to the incident and took both vehicles into custody for further investigation. The circumstances surrounding the truck driver’s failure to stop and the events leading to the collision remain under inquiry.
