St Albans City began their 2026–27 season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Chatham Town at Clarence Park on Saturday. The match got off to an energetic start from Chatham, who created an early opportunity when Harry Lodovica’s shot struck the post within the first 15 minutes. Despite this initial pressure, St Albans found their rhythm and opened the scoring shortly after the half-hour mark.

Kieran Petrie gave the home side the lead with a precise low shot into the bottom corner. The visitors’ defense struggled to contain Petrie, who soon played a key role in the second goal. On the verge of halftime, he assisted Jake Gray, who curled a shot from the edge of the area into the far corner, doubling St Albans’ advantage.

Just before the break, Gray added his own goal, extending the lead to 3-0 and giving the hosts a comfortable cushion going into the second half. After the interval, Chatham attempted to mount a comeback and created several chances, including a notable effort from James Wild, but were unable to convert any of their opportunities.

St Albans managed the remainder of the match effectively, maintaining control and limiting Chatham’s chances to mount a genuine threat. The home side’s defensive solidity and efficient attacking display secured all three points on the opening day of the season.
