ST Engineering’s urban solutions division has secured a $750 million contract to deliver turnkey rail services for the extension of the green metro line in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The project, announced on August 26, is scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026 and will span seven years.

The contract is part of a larger agreement with consortium partner Hyundai Rotem. Under the agreement, ST Engineering will assume responsibility for overall project management and systems integration, as well as provide rail-electronics solutions. These include supervisory control and data acquisition systems, communications infrastructure, an automatic fare-collection system, and platform screen doors. Hyundai Rotem will supply the power system and rolling stock for the extension.

ST Engineering and its partners will oversee the integration and delivery of key project elements such as signaling, depot equipment, and trackworks. Gerath Tang, president of ST Engineering’s urban solutions business, highlighted that the contract win reflects customer confidence in the company’s capability to manage large-scale rail infrastructure projects.

The green line extension will cover 7.2 kilometers and add five stations to the existing metro network. According to local media, this will be the first metro line in Taoyuan to be independently planned by the city government.

This new contract complements ST Engineering’s ongoing work on the existing green line, where it has been providing rail-electronics solutions. In July, the company also secured an $840 million contract for the development of Taoyuan’s brown line, an 11.4-kilometer route with a projected eight-year delivery timeline that similarly starts in late 2026.

Following the announcement, shares of ST Engineering increased 1.04% to close at $10.69 on August 27.
