The Straits Times will publish a specially curated weekly edition over four Fridays beginning October 9 in support of the National Library Board’s ReadSG movement, a nationwide initiative aimed at fostering a culture of reading. This compact-format publication, named the Straits Times Weekly, is produced in collaboration with the NLB and will be distributed free of charge to selected households as well as available for collection at four MRT stations: Bedok, Boon Lay, Raffles Place, and Toa Payoh.

The project, spanning October 9 to 30, is part of the broader ReadSG campaign, which is designed to cultivate a nation of readers over the next five years. SPH Media, the publisher of The Straits Times, is an official media partner of the NLB’s ReadSG effort and will use this publication to highlight key news stories in a concise format.

Each 20-page edition will feature a summary of notable news articles from The Straits Times over the preceding week, focusing on topics pertinent to Singaporeans such as local developments, global and business news, and other items of general interest. The editions will also include puzzles, book reviews, and reading recommendations.

Straits Times editor Jaime Ho described the initiative as a means to encourage the habit of reading and direct readers toward reliable and authoritative news sources. Ho added that the publication hopes to rekindle an appreciation for reading news in print form.

Distributed copies, totaling approximately 20,000 per edition, will include a survey inviting recipients to share their reading habits. The special weekly editions will conclude by October 30.
