Jes Staley, the former chief executive of Barclays, appeared before the House Oversight Committee in a closed-door session in Washington to address questions regarding his connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The interview took place following a request from James Comer, the Republican chair of the committee.

Staley arrived at the congressional office building without responding to media inquiries, and his legal representatives declined to comment on the matter. The committee’s investigation into financial industry executives’ ties to Epstein has also involved other prominent figures. Last month, the committee issued subpoenas to Leon Black, co-founder of Apollo Global Management, who has so far declined to provide testimony. Additionally, Kathy Ruemmler, former chief legal officer at Goldman Sachs, participated in a confidential interview last week.

The oversight panel’s inquiries are part of a broader investigation into the relationships and financial dealings between Epstein and several major Wall Street executives. The committee has emphasized its intent to explore whether Epstein’s network influenced business practices or corporate governance within the firms connected to him.
