Students at Wick High School in the Scottish Highlands engaged in a live communication session with astronaut Joshua Kutryk aboard the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday. The school is believed to be the northernmost in the United Kingdom to have established direct contact with the space station.
The conversation took place using amateur radio equipment as the ISS passed over the region, providing pupils with a unique opportunity to speak with an astronaut in orbit. The event aimed to inspire interest in space science and technology among the students.
Joshua Kutryk, a Canadian astronaut currently serving on the ISS, answered questions from the pupils, discussing life aboard the station and the scientific research conducted there. The interaction was facilitated by a local team specializing in amateur radio communications with space missions.
This educational initiative highlights the ongoing efforts to use modern technology to engage young learners in STEM subjects, offering them a direct connection to space exploration activities.
