Former breakfast radio personality Wendy Harmer has offered advice to Karl Stefanovic and Kyle Sandilands, should the former Today host and the ex-KIIS breakfast radio anchor decide to collaborate. Harmer suggested their success could come from pushing boundaries and deliberately offending listeners.

“Offend as many people as possible. That seems to be a pretty good recipe these days,” Harmer said, indicating that taking greater risks outside the constraints of commercial radio could benefit the duo. She noted that legal and commercial considerations frequently influenced content during Sandilands’s time on air, limiting what could be said.

Harmer also highlighted shifts in audio consumption habits, pointing out that audiences now often prefer podcasts over traditional radio formats. She cited conversations with her hairdresser and an Uber driver, both of whom expressed missing Sandilands’s radio presence due to its unpredictable nature.

The former radio star suggested that changes to commercial breakfast programming may have alienated some listeners, potentially creating a niche for Stefanovic and Sandilands if they decide to work together. However, she emphasized the importance of on-air chemistry and the quality of guests in determining the success of any new venture.

“It will depend on the calibre of guests and whether they have any chemistry, because you can’t just put two people together and expect that chemistry to work,” Harmer said.
