The Royal Mint has released special 50p coins commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise. The coins, designed to appeal to fans and collectors, feature iconic imagery and phrases from the long-running science fiction series.
One coin depicts Spock’s Vulcan salute alongside the phrase “live long and prosper,” while another showcases four spacecraft from various points in Star Trek’s history. Some of the coins are coloured to match the costumes worn by key characters Captain Kirk and Spock, adding a distinctive visual touch.
Tim Mulhall, head of fandom at The Royal Mint, described the coins as “a keepsake that’s out of this world,” noting they are intended for fans who have grown up with the franchise and wish to own a tangible piece of its history. Ruth Henriquez, head of products and experiences at Paramount—Star Trek’s franchise owner—highlighted the dedicated collector community surrounding the series and affirmed that the coins serve as a tribute to its six decades of influence.
The Vulcan salute 50p coin is available individually, while the coin featuring the spacecraft will be released later in November. Both coins can be purchased together as a set directly from The Royal Mint starting at £19.95. Sales began at 9 a.m. on September 3.
