A star-studded tribute concert honoring broadcaster Bob Harris will take place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on December 2. The event, titled *Stand By Me: Bob Harris – A Celebration of Life in Music*, will feature performances by prominent musicians including Sir Roger Daltrey, Paul Weller, and Robert Plant, among others. Additional artists scheduled to perform include Rick Wakeman, Chris Difford, Judie Tzuke, Carly Pearce, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Kate Rusby, The Shires, Kezia Gill, and Toby Lee, with further names expected to be announced.

Harris, known by the nickname "Whispering Bob" due to his distinctive radio voice, is 80 years old and has recently stepped away from his broadcasting duties to focus on his health. Having presented iconic music shows such as *The Old Grey Whistle Test* on BBC Two from 1972 to 1979, Harris has been a significant figure in introducing generations of listeners to country, folk, Americana, and singer-songwriter music. He hosted his country show on BBC Radio 2 for over two decades until 2026 and took over *Sounds of the 70s* from 2024 until March 2026 following the death of Johnnie Walker.

Harris was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 and underwent successful treatment. However, in April 2026, he revealed that the cancer had spread to his spine, leading to a two-week course of radiotherapy. He has expressed gratitude for the support he received from BBC Radio 2 throughout his treatment.

Many of the artists appearing at the concert have longstanding professional and personal relationships with Harris, some having been championed by him early in their careers. Harris described the event as the realization of a dream and expressed his affection for the Royal Albert Hall, where he has attended concerts since 1968. He called the venue "the most beautiful and prestigious" in Britain and said he felt deeply honored to have such esteemed artists join him on stage.

In addition to musical performances, the tribute will feature appearances by figures from broadcasting and the music industry who will share memories and reflections on Harris’s career and influence. Tickets for the event are scheduled to go on sale soon.
