A promising Northern Hemisphere-bred five-year-old, Starzintheireyes, is set to resume racing at Royal Randwick this Saturday, marking the start of what his trainers expect to be a successful spring campaign. The horse, trained by John O’Shea and Tom Charlton, is returning from a spell after a consistent first Australian season that concluded over winter.

Starzintheireyes, by Starspangledbanner, has shown improvement since arriving in Australia, and his connections believe he is well-suited to longer distances, particularly a mile and a half. O’Shea noted that with his second preparation underway, the horse is expected to perform better than during his Australian debut. His previous runs have been competitive against notable staying prospects including Tazima and King Of The Sea, early favorites in the Metropolitan markets, as well as Zahraann, who is considered a contender for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

After two encouraging trial runs, Starzintheireyes will kick off his spring campaign in The Agency Real Estate Handicap over 1600 meters, with jockey Zac Lloyd in the saddle. Trainers are hopeful he will progress through the grades and ultimately compete in higher-level races.

In other stable news, Roselyn’s Star, a speedster from the same team, will compete in the Group 2 Concorde Stakes over 1000 meters, a race with a $1 million prize pool. Roselyn’s Star began his campaign strongly by winning the July Stakes over 1100 meters by 2½ lengths, bringing his record to four wins from 12 starts. O’Shea expressed optimism that the horse’s fitness could give him an edge despite some doubts about his form outside Rosehill, where all his previous wins have occurred. The stable plans for Roselyn’s Star to have a relatively light spring before targeting the Magic Millions Gold Coast event in January.

Among other noteworthy contenders at Randwick, Thebudgiesmugla, a Kiwi-bred stayer with an undefeated record at 2400 meters, looks poised to maintain his unbeaten streak in Race 4. He is expected to race prominently, aided by his stablemate So You Are.

Decorum, who has undergone gelding since his last run, will return in Race 5. Despite a disappointing performance in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas due to a cardiac arrhythmia, Decorum has since shown promising form in trials and is expected to perform well, particularly if he draws a favorable barrier.

Pembrey, the winner of the Silver Shadow Stakes, will start in Race 6. The filly impressed with a strong finishing sectional time that ranks among the fastest in the race’s history, casting her as a significant contender in the current spring series.

Headley Grange will make his season debut in Race 7. The horse’s record over 1400 meters is strong, and historical trends favor first-up winners in the Tramway Stakes since it shifted to set weights and penalties in 2013.

Finally, Headwall, last year’s winner of Race 8, comes into Saturday’s race off a series of robust trial performances from the inform Matt Smith stable. Despite no starts this season, the horse is expected to be well-prepared and will be gunning for a strong result as part of a campaign aimed at The Everest.

Saturday’s card also features a competitive jockeys’ challenge. Zac Lloyd leads early betting with two favorites and two second choices among his rides, followed closely by Nash Rawiller and champion rider James McDonald, who will partner with a mix of favorites and well-regarded mounts throughout the day.
