The Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor in Ames, Iowa, is set to receive a new park shelter constructed from recycled shipping containers, officials announced. The 37-acre urban conservation park is known for its trails, native vegetation, prairie, and wetland habitats, serving as a model for conservation practices focused on water quality.
The shelter will be situated near the park’s existing “Outlook Area” at the south entrance and will incorporate sustainable design elements consistent with the park’s environmental mission. Amenities planned for the new structure include restrooms, a drinking fountain, educational signage, wayfinding features, and a kitchenette available for rental.
Story County Conservation, the agency overseeing the project, expects construction to be completed by September, with the shelter opening anticipated in the fall. The addition aims to enhance visitor experience by providing shelter and educational resources while emphasizing the park’s commitment to environmental stewardship through the use of recycled materials.
