Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations with India, highlighting ongoing efforts to address existing challenges through dialogue. The remarks came during a press briefing at the foreign ministry on Tuesday, where Kobir also discussed the planned visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India.
“Of course, there are some challenges. We are hopeful that we can overcome those through dialogue and discussion,” Kobir told reporters. He noted that the issue of Tarique’s visit was raised during a morning meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi. While the timing of the visit has yet to be finalized, Kobir emphasized that it would take place only when conditions are favorable and based on mutual respect. He declined to comment on speculation that the visit might occur in November.
Indian High Commissioner Trivedi echoed the positive tone regarding bilateral relations. Describing the overall state of ties as “absolutely positive,” he reaffirmed India’s open invitation for Prime Minister Rahman’s visit. “I don’t think there is a need for a hurry. Everything is very positive. But we must give due time,” Trivedi said, underlining the importance of finding a mutually convenient moment for further engagement between the two countries.
Addressing the current political environment, the Indian envoy acknowledged that political considerations influence both nations but stressed that they should not detract from the broader bilateral relationship. “There is no question about anything like it. I am positive, the state minister is positive, and the people of Bangladesh are positive. Everything is possible,” he added.
The comments follow India’s recent statement reaffirming its commitment to advancing its partnership with Bangladesh in a positive and constructive manner, including cooperation on law and order issues. Both sides appear keen to strengthen ties through continued dialogue and planned high-level visits, signaling a mutual interest in overcoming challenges and promoting regional cooperation.
