The iconic musical "Annie," which first debuted on Broadway in 1977 and earned seven Tony Awards, is set for a new revival in the fall of 2027 to mark its 50th anniversary. The production team confirmed the upcoming Broadway revival this week, though specific dates have yet to be announced.

This upcoming staging will be the third Broadway revival of "Annie," following previous revivals in 1997 and 2012. The new production will be directed by Sam Pinkleton, who earned a Tony Award in 2025 for his work on "Oh, Mary!" and recently directed a Tony-nominated revival of "The Rocky Horror Show," both of which remain active on Broadway.

Casting details have not been released, but it is expected that a newcomer will assume the role of Annie, while a more established performer may take on the role of Miss Hannigan, the orphanage administrator known for her bitterness and comedic grit. The producing team includes Michael Alden in his debut as a lead producer, alongside Halcyon Theatricals, a new company led by Hal Luftig, Cathy Dantchik, and Kevin Connor.

In addition to the Broadway revival, Goodspeed Musicals in East Haddam, Connecticut—where "Annie" was originally developed in 1976—will present its own 50th anniversary production from October 30 through December 27. This regional production features Broadway veteran Emily Skinner as Miss Hannigan and Laiken Jules, a social media personality, in the title role. Jenn Thompson, who was a replacement orphan in the original Broadway run and directed a national tour that included a performance at Madison Square Garden, is serving as director.

Beyond these high-profile productions, "Annie" continues to have numerous local renditions across the United States as well as a touring company recently launched in Britain and Ireland.

Collectively, these efforts highlight the enduring popularity of "Annie," a musical that has become a staple of American theater for half a century.
