A man has been arrested following a nearly 1,000-kilometer incident involving a stolen Ford Ranger ute that ended in a crash on the Bruce Highway in Queensland. The vehicle was reportedly involved in a dangerous driving spree, during which it allegedly sideswiped multiple cars before rolling near the Peters Road intersection between Mackay and Proserpine on Saturday morning.

Police said the ute was stolen from a property in the Moreton Bay region, specifically Beachmere, on October 8. Authorities are currently investigating whether the arrested man, who is in his 20s, was responsible for the initial theft.

Emergency services responded to numerous calls reporting a vehicle driving erratically, including on the wrong side of the highway, prompting a police response. The ute was eventually found overturned around 11 a.m. and was extensively damaged, requiring a tow from the scene. Despite the severity of the crash, no injuries were reported.

The driver was transported to a hospital for medical assessment. Police continue to piece together the events leading up to the incident as they examine the links between the vehicle theft and the subsequent road incident.
