Tropical Storm Amanda has developed in the Pacific Ocean, becoming the first named storm of the 2026 hurricane season, the US National Hurricane Center reported. As of the latest advisory, Amanda was positioned approximately 1,475 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico.

The Miami-based agency is actively monitoring the storm's progression, although no immediate threats to land have been identified at this stage. Meteorologists continue to track Amanda’s movement and intensity as it moves over open waters.

The formation of Amanda marks the official start of the Eastern Pacific hurricane season, which typically extends from May 15 through November 30. This early-season development aligns with climatological expectations for the region.
