A man was lifted more than 10 feet into the air after clinging to a shop awning that was caught by strong winds during a severe storm in Kunming, a city in southern China’s Yunnan province. The incident occurred amid gale-force winds and heavy rain, with the man’s sudden airborne trajectory captured on video by bystanders at a nearby restaurant.

The footage shows the worker holding onto the metal frame of the awning as it caught the wind, lifting him above the ground before he lost his grip and fell onto unoccupied tables and chairs. The man’s condition following the fall has not been disclosed. The storm caused debris to scatter across the street and prompted onlookers to urgently seek shelter.

This event took place as Yunnan province faced widespread severe weather conditions, including intense rainstorms that triggered deadly landslides. At least 29 people have been confirmed dead, with many others reported missing as rescue operations continue. The heavy rainfall has resulted in flooding and damage to infrastructure across the region.
