An immersive exhibition celebrating the legacy of Japan’s renowned Studio Ghibli is set to make its world premiere in Singapore this December. Titled The Story of Studio Ghibli, the exhibition will open on December 18 at the West Lawn of Gardens by the Bay and will run until July 4, 2027, covering nearly 3,500 square meters.

Organised by event company M Experience and IP management firm Tsukuru, the exhibition will take visitors through iconic scenes from the studio’s celebrated films, including Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989), Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001), Howl’s Moving Castle (2004), and the most recent release, The Boy and the Heron (2023).

The exhibition promises an immersive, walkthrough experience featuring 12 life-size recreations of key environments from the films. Among the highlights is an 8-meter tall, three-dimensional model of the iconic bath house from Spirited Away, inspired by Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama, Japan, which will be recreated in Singapore for the first time. Visitors will also be able to encounter notable characters and settings such as the Ohmu creatures from Nausicaa, Totoro and the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro, and the mysterious streets depicted in Spirited Away.

Interactive multimedia installations are integrated throughout the showcase, designed to engage visitors of all ages. Themes explored include creativity, resilience, and environmental stewardship, with additional educational initiatives planned to deepen attendees’ engagement with these concepts.

Studio Ghibli, founded in Tokyo in 1985 by Isao Takahata, Hayao Miyazaki, and Toshio Suzuki, has garnered global acclaim for its timeless storytelling and animation. Its films often reflect values of kindness, courage, respect for nature, and hope—qualities that continue to resonate widely across generations.

Sean Lim, chief executive of M Experience, described the exhibition as more than a display, characterising it as “an experience to be felt.” The Singapore Tourism Board (STB), which supports the event, welcomed the world premiere of the exhibition, highlighting its contribution to Singapore’s cultural vibrancy and its role in enhancing the city-state’s reputation as a leading regional lifestyle destination.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with tickets available through official partner Klook. Pricing varies by residency status and peak periods, with adult tickets for Singaporeans and permanent residents set at S$39, and concession tickets for seniors and young children at S$29. Non-resident prices range from S$43 to S$55 depending on peak or off-peak dates. Purchases made before December 18 will include an exclusive limited-edition gift while supplies last.

Peak periods include festive dates in late December and early January, as well as several weekends and holidays throughout the first half of 2027. Further details about the exhibition will be disclosed closer to the opening date.
