Stourbridge secured a 2-0 victory against Loughborough Students in a Midlands derby played in heavy rain on Saturday. The match, which pitted East Midlands-based Loughborough against West Midlands’ Stourbridge, was characterized by challenging weather conditions that tested both teams’ ability to execute passing football.
Early in the first half, chances were limited despite efforts from both sides. Stourbridge’s Zach Willis had a half-volley that was deflected over the bar, while Loughborough’s Ash Lee missed the target with a shot. Around the 30-minute mark, Loughborough’s Matt Rennie nearly broke the deadlock but saw his effort narrowly miss the goal.
The breakthrough came five minutes later when Charlie Pavey delivered a cross into the Loughborough penalty area that the home team struggled to clear. On-loan player Frank Tattum capitalized on the defensive lapse, curling the ball past the goalkeeper to give Stourbridge a 1-0 lead.
Despite persistent rainfall throughout the second half, Loughborough intensified their attacking efforts in search of an equalizer, but clear openings remained scarce. Stourbridge appeared to secure their advantage in the 78th minute when Josh Quaynor’s corner found the head of Liam Brazier, who doubled the visitors’ lead.
Loughborough continued to press in the closing stages, registering two shots and a header on target, but Stourbridge goalkeeper Blade Earley remained alert, making the necessary saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The victory marked a confident away performance for Stourbridge under difficult weather conditions, allowing them to claim bragging rights in this regional encounter.
