Stratford Town secured a narrow victory over fellow Warwickshire side Leamington in a closely contested derby match. The game, held on October 10, saw Stratford claim bragging rights in the county after edging their opponents 2-1.

The Bards applied strong pressure early in the match, with Josh Hawker hitting the bar and having another effort cleared off the line. Jack Storer also forced an impressive save from Leamington goalkeeper Brian Okonkwo. The pressure paid off in the 18th minute when Kobe Hall was fouled inside the penalty area by Okonkwo, allowing Reece Flanagan to convert the resulting spot-kick confidently and give Stratford the lead.

Leamington responded shortly after the break, leveling the score in the 49th minute through Kai Tonge. Tonge’s looping header sailed over Stratford goalkeeper Jake Weaver, restoring parity in a match that remained competitive throughout.

Both sides created further chances as the contest progressed. Leamington’s Fin Brennan tested Okonkwo with a shot on target, while Hall narrowly missed with a shot that went just wide of the post. Stratford reclaimed the lead in the 67th minute when Dan Vann caused disruption inside Leamington’s penalty area following a long throw. The ball fell to Hall, who finished at the far post to restore Stratford’s advantage.

Flanagan nearly extended Stratford’s lead when his free-kick struck both posts, but the ball did not find the net. In the closing stages, a crucial defensive moment from Stratford captain Paul McCone helped secure the win when he headed off the line from a dangerous Tonge effort, denying the visitors an equalizer.

The victory ensures Stratford Town holds the upper hand in local rivalry matches this season, maintaining their momentum in the campaign.
