Queens Borough President Donovan Richards announced plans Thursday to rename a street in honor of Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad, a 28-year-old soldier from Ozone Park who was killed last Friday during an Iranian attack on a U.S. base in Jordan. The proposed dedication would take place on the block outside Rampersad’s family home on 96th Street.

Rampersad was stationed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base when the attack occurred, resulting in her death. Richards described her as a hero who made “the ultimate sacrifice” and emphasized her commitment to serving both her country and community. He said the street renaming is a small but meaningful way to recognize her bravery and dedication.

At the announcement, Rampersad’s mother, Carol Acevedo, expressed her grief and pride. “She died for her country,” Acevedo said, recalling her daughter’s dedication and character. She described Rampersad as a “good, good soldier,” highlighting the soldier’s commitment to her duties.

The initiative to honor Sgt. Rampersad reflects a broader effort to commemorate military members who have died in service, particularly those from local communities.
